"Psychologically, massage relieves stress, reduces anxiety and depression, calms the nervous system, and promotes a sense of relaxation, mental clarity, and renewed energy."(Moyer, Rounds, & Hannum)
Massage therapy is a treatment that involves the manipulation of soft tissues in the body, including muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It is often used to promote relaxation, relieve stress, and alleviate pain.
A therapeutic massage can help with your overall well-being, range of motion, relieve chronic pain, reduce stress; in addition to, improving circulation and promoting relaxation which has numerous health benefits. It is a holistic investment for your overall health, well-being, preventive care and a big part of self-care.
The frequency of your massage sessions will depend on your individual needs and goals. Some people may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may only need one every few months. Your therapist can help you determine the best schedule for you.
We do our best to meet your expectations to reach your goals and needs. Massage is a process and most times it takes a few sessions to completely get rid of pain, especially if it is a chronic issue. Each session is customized, and we will review what will take place before the session starts. If something is noticed during the session that could be contributing to your pain not previously discussed, your therapist will ask for permission prior to working in the area. An assessment, health history, and full body compression is performed to assess the entire body. If you are receiving a therapeutic massage only the part of the body we are working on will be uncovered. The body will always be properly draped, especially private areas which under no circumstances will ever be exposed. Occasionally clients can also have emotional releases due to the massage, which is your body's way of removing stored tension, stress, trauma, etc. We also have a zero-tolerance policy, which we do not allow any sexual comments, gestures, or advances of any kind. You should not expect any kind of sexual activity. You also reserve the right to stop your session at any time for any reason.
Soreness is usually a natural part of the massage process, especially if it has been a while since your last session. Tissues and muscles have been manipulated to release stress and tension. It usually feels like DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) and subsides within 48-72 hours depending on how your body responds. It is recommended to hydrate even more after your session, as dehydration can also cause muscle soreness, and to continue light stretching and/or taking an Epsom salt soak (if you are medically able to do so.)
This has no effect on your massage, nor does it matter to your therapist. Your comfort is of most importance. This is a judgement free, come as you are zone. Your healing and wellness are what your therapist is looking to facilitate.
You undress to your comfort level as your therapist can work with or without clothes. The best way to receive the most thorough massage is with all clothes removed, leaving on undergarments. Private areas and those not being massaged will be always draped. If you are receiving reiki healing or chair massage, clothes remain on. You can remove socks if necessary. It is also best to remove all jewelry, watches, etc. or anything that can interfere with the flow of your session.
